Students will analyze a variety of different genres such as fables, poems, myths, fairy tales, picture books, and novels with themes that explore escapism, individuality, rites of passage, death, banned literature, divorce/separation, overcoming obstacles, and the demands of society.

This course is a survey of ancient and contemporary children’s works. Students will analyze a variety of different genres such as fables, poems, myths, fairy tales, picture books, and novels with themes that explore escapism, individuality, rites of passage, death, banned literature, divorce/separation, overcoming obstacles, and the demands of society.
Critical literary approaches are explored, such as historical, psychological, feminist, and biographical to discuss and analyze these literary texts.
